'Peace week' to end violent crime
A community organisation is holding a week of events to tackle gun crime in south Manchester.

The Community Alliance for Renewal, Inner South Manchester Area (Carisma), was set up to help prevent young people getting involved in violent crime.

Children at six local schools have recorded songs about peace on a CD to commemorate the peace campaign.

A group of young people will also march in a lantern-lit parade from Moss Side and Longsight to Platt Fields park.

Carisma has organised special assemblies, classes and workshops to educate children in 15 schools in the area throughout the week.

Similar events are to be held by other local community groups, organisations and faith groups in south Manchester.
